Why I chose to work with Peter for the illustrations

We met Peter McDonald at an animation workshop in 2002 where he was presenting. I was amazed by his skill level and we became good friends. Peter helped us with animation work and when I was working on the book I came up with the idea to ask him to design the illustrations for me. He was my first choice as he is the very best at interpreting what I wanted for the book, customised per chapter. I think we managed to create a unique set of illustrations and I am very happy with the results!

Chapter 1

Peter McDonald commenced his animation career in 1979, where he worked in the Sydney office of the famed Hanna-Barbera studio and is now an award-winning animator with more than 30 years experience in the industry.

In the intervening years, Peter worked in Sydney with Burbank Studios for Fox Studios (USA), Walt Disney Studios, and a number of commercial houses. Peter also relocated to Perth and Fremantle for several years where he helped set up a commercial studio. Throughout his career, Peter has witnessed the animation industry evolve from the classical 2D paper and pencil roughs that were converted into precisely painted transparent cells, to the new age of computer generated graphics and cartoons.

In 1996, Peter moved back to Queensland. Peter continues to work as a highly sought-after freelance animator and his illustrations are rich with vibrant and expressive characters that elegantly depict some of the concepts covered in each chapter.
